- it really depends on your interests and travel locations.... warsaw and krakow are super. jasna gora is very moving. zakopane is divine and gorgeous as is the kaszupy mt. region. gdansk and sopot are neat....
it really depends on what you're interestedin seeing & learning.
- Krakow!! The city is amazing. I could go on for days and days about everything to do and see there. The food, Wawel Hill, DaVinci's finest portrait, Galeria Krakowska, the chocolate, the capuccino, the fire-jugglers, the museums, the musicians, the theaters... just the richness of the history and the culture. After living there once, I'd like to become fluent in Polish so that I can move there again and fully assimilate with the culture. I want to be able to pass as an old Polish woman when I retire :)
From Krakow, it's an easy trip to the mountains and gorale culture of Zakopane (a few hrs), the pilgrimage site and shrine at Czestochowa (maybe 2 hrs), the *original* UNESCO World Heritage Site salt mines of Wieliczka (20 minutes), the German death camps of Auschwitz and Birkineau (i think about an hour), and other places of interest. You can find lots of ads for tours in Krakow, and I think that it's best to book once you're in the city (unless you're traveling with a large group). The prices that companies advertise in Krakow are often lower than the prices they advertise online. Your hotel or hostel will be able to help you, and there's a tourist office in the middle of the main square.
- You definitively should see Krakow and the Tatra mountains region, Gdansk and Baltic see, Wroclaw and Warsaw - a capital.
My website has lots of information about it:

- My hometown - Swinoujcie!!
- if it's your first trip to poland, then you should see the same old places everyone talks about: warsaw and krakow. most travellers will have fun anywhere they go. BUT i suggest you go someplace DIFFERENT in poland, a little off the beaten track, and visit the baltic cities (gdansk, gdynia, sopot) and maybe tour some of central/western poland (szczecin, torun, poznan, gniezno).
my personal opinion--krakow is great, but it's not the only city worth seeing in poland
- When you get tired with all the amazing monuments, museums, history, art etc....
